American Heritage Chocolate giveaway

by Stephanie Weaver on November 16, 2012

American Heritage Chocolate GiveawayWin this tasty dessert kit from American Heritage Chocolate. American Heritage Chocolate was created using historical research to showcase how chocolate would have been enjoyed in 18th-century Colonial America. It’s sold at historic sites like Mount Vernon and Colonial Williamsburg. You can buy it online here. It includes anise, salt, red pepper, annatto, nutmeg, vanilla, orange, and cinnamon. I love how the strong spices combine with the chocolate to make a grown-up version of hot chocolate, which would probably be outstanding with a little rum in it, too. I used it to create this chocolate-bourbon-pecan pie recipe.

The kit includes a 5.13 oz American Heritage chocolate block, a 12.7 oz American Heritage chocolate drink mix in a muslin bag, a dark blue Emile Henry fluted-edge 9-inch ceramic pie dish, and a set of autumn-themed mini cookie or pie cutters (two leaves, an acorn, a pumpkin, an apple, and a turkey). SWEEPSTAKES IS NOW CLOSED. Congratulations to reader Laurie H.!

Here is this week’s question:
What is your favorite chocolate dessert?

I just made a chocolate desert yesterday that may just be my new favorite….if it’s possible to pick!
I melted 70% cacao chocolate, I saute’d fennel seeds with a teaspoon of sugar to candy coat the fennel. I finely chopped up candied ginger. I dipped very thin wafers into the melted chocolate to completely cover. I put it on parchment paper on a cookie sheet and topped them all with the candied fennel, giner and sea salt. It’s an explosion of flavor and so different than anything I’ve ever tasted.

My favorite chocolate dessert is a gluten-free chocolate-dipped S’more. Gluten-free graham crackers sandwiching a piece of dark chocolate and toasted marshmallow fluff (keeping it vegetarian…I toast Fluff with my kitchen torch). Melt down some chocolate and dip. Allow to harden…and enjoy!

This is one of those questions that people ask & it’s so hard to answer!!! Chocolate cheesecake is awesome. But a great chocolate cookie is to die for. O.K. Final answer: a cup of hot chocolate I had in Paris. It was like melted chocolate in a cup – with a pot so I could serve myself more!!!
