Reader sweepstakes: SodaStream and Artisan Soda Workshop!

by Stephanie Weaver on December 14, 2012

Soda Stream & Artisan Soda Workshop giveawayYes, I saved the best for last! I’m soooo excited to be able to give away this cool selzer water maker plus a fantastic little recipe book to make your own healthy sodas. The book is Artisan Soda Workshop by Andrea Lynn, who supported my Cookies for Cody fundraiser this year.

We were sent the SodaStream Genesis unit. The whole reason I wanted one was for The Husband, who loves him some fizzy water. We go through way too many plastic bottles (they have a second life as dog toys and then get recycled) so I hoped he would like the unit and perhaps we could reduce our carbon footprint. The machine works great, and it doesn’t take up much counterspace, which is a plus in our tiny kitchen. You have to use special plastic bottles with it, which don’t hold a ton, so I know we will probably have to buy one or two more. The water is supposed to be super cold before you carbonate it, so it’s easy to forget to refill them and put them in the fridge. We liked the little bottles of fruit essence that add flavor without any sugar or artificial ingredients. You turn in the CO2 canisters to stores that sell the SodaStream and get refills there. We are keeping the machine, and I think it would be fun to have a soda party next summer.

Artisan sodas

Left to rigth: Kiwi-juniper soda, copycat Fresca, pineapple-basil soda

Andrea’s slim little volume packs in 70 recipes for making flavored syrups at home. It’s perfect for using with the SodaStream, of course, or you can simply buy your own seltzer or soda water. While some do contain cane sugar, there are plenty with my list of approved sweeteners. There’s a “copycat” section, where she has come up with syrups to replicate many favorite sodas on the market. I remember Fresca from when I was a kid, and I have to say that this version is WAY better. She has so many unusual combinations. I just had to try the kiwi-juniper berry. It wasn’t my favorite, but definitely gets points for being super-unusual. The pineapple basil has no added sugar; it’s simply boiled-down pineapple juice.

The syrups would make great holiday or hostess gifts, as would this fun little book for anyone who does a lot of entertaining. While Andrea doesn’t suggest it, many of these would make terrific artisan cocktails with the addition of a little booze.

The giveaway includes a SodaStream Fountain Jet starter kit, and a copy of The Artisan Soda Workshop: 75 Homemade Recipes from Fountain Classics to Rhubarb Basil, Sea Salt Lime, Cold-Brew Coffee and Much Much More by food writer Andrea Lynn.

I have a son, Tylor, who has CP and Autism, he is 18 and wants to be a chef. He absolutely loves everything about cooking and kitchen appliances. He’s always had a love for cooking. Over the past several years for Christmas he’s asked for items such as Rachael Ray cookware to the Magic Bullet. I really appreciate this opportunity – Thank You!

The soda stream is a great kitchen appliance – we have one, and it’s one of the few appliances that we use on a regular basis. I’d love to win so that I could give this unit to my mom (give her a great reason to wean off sugary drinks). Andrea’s book looks like it’s packed with some good recipes – so I might have to keep that part of the prize if I was chosen ;) … and if I don’t win, I think you’ve just provided me with two great ideas. Happy holidays!

I LOVE our soda stream! My kids drink so much water, often choosing sparkle water over juice when given the option. I would love to give one to my father and stepmom for Christmas. It would really help them cut down one the amount of plastic bottles they are always buying!

I would love a Sodastream for several but the two most important are 1) to help the environment as much as I can by using less plastic and 2) for those in my family who drink soda, it is a much healthier alternative.

I have dreamed of owning a Soda Stream on a regular basis since I first locked eyes on it in Wal-Mart last summer. I’d never seen such beauty, such elegance…and I knew I just had to have it. I forgot all the world around me as I made my way to the drink maker of my dreams. Now, every time I go to Wal-Mart I look for it, and just hold it in my arms and whisper, “Some day, I’ll take you to your forever home.” Because of some crazy life happenings, I’ve simply not had the finances to purchase one. I’d told my mom a couple weeks ago that I’d really love to have one; so for Christmas she gave me money to get it. However, two days later, my dadgum heater went out and I had to use the money to have it fixed. (It’s been pretty chilly in Kansas.) And ya know, mom’s generally do without ‘wants’ to make sure the family is well taken care of, so, I’m back to dreaming…

I have always wanted to have a soda machine, but working for a small non-profit and with my husband being a grad student, we don’t have extra money to spend. We love to reduce, reuse and recycle – so this would fall in line with our values and create tasty and bubbly drinks right at home!

I’ve been wanting one ever since I got to try it at BlogHer. I have been having a craving for fizzy things and I find that a little bit of sweet helps me get through the afternoon without having to get sugary snacks. SodaStream would be fantastic for that!

I also go through quite a lot of sparkling water bottles because I love the bubbles! I like to add a squeeze of some sort of citrus and relax with my glass of bubbly and a good book. I’d like to win the SodaStream so that hubby doesn’t have to make late-night supermarket runs for my sparkling water fix, to reduce my use of plastic bottles, and to experiment with flavors to make get-togethers with friends extra fun and tasty.

I don’t purchase soda for my family (too much yucky sugar and chemical ingredients). However, we do enjoy fizzy drinks from time to time and I love to experiment with flavors from my garden. For example, I make a rosemary infused simple syrup that I combine with blood orange juice and strawberries to make a yummy sorbet. I can imagine the same flavor combination working well with the SodaStream.

Hi Stephanie! I just stumbled upon your delicious blog when searching for perilla recipes, linking the one for perilla pesto to the SP website today. I noticed your blog about the soda stream and the yummy looking artisan soda book. I have been thinking about getting the soda stream for a while now, reason being is I am absolutely rubbish about drinking enough water and I know I would be in much better health if I did. I LOVE bubbly beverages, particularly infused waters (and of course champagne, but that’s not gonna help me with my water intake!) so I was thinking getting a bubbly water maker would be a good way to encourage myself to drink more H2O :o )

I’d love to win the soda stream because the water in our rental home tastes nasty! We have to buy distilled water to make our coffee with, and finding things we like to drink (that aren’t soda) has gotten a bit tricky. This would be a great help in our ‘drink dilemma’
