I am really pleased to share screenshots with you from the final design, now that my book has gone off to the printer. If you were following my progress on Kickstarter, we raised about $3500, enough to pay for the design of the book. During the design process, we have made some exciting changes. First, we shortened the title to give a better idea of what the book is about. After spending an hour at the bookstore, we decided to add a badge to the front cover announcing that the book contains both memory pages and a book club guide. The memory pages in the back will allow pet lovers to put photos and write memories of their lost pet in the book.
Next, my wonderful designer Tanya Bredehoft of Artefact Design created a scrapbook look for the opening of each essay. We incorporated some new photos, like this new version of the birthday cake. In some cases, we didn’t have high-resolution images to use, which are key for high-quality printed books. When I could reshoot them, I did. If not, she used them as small as possible and manipulated the files to improve the quality.I can’t wait to see the proofs this week! There’s something about a bar code that makes the book seem very official!
Next steps will be a press check (follow me on Facebook if you want to see pix when I go to LA), then the printed books are due back in San Diego by November 7th, just in time for my first official appearance at the San Diego Veg Fest. Thanks so much for your support!
