My friend and fellow blogger Andrew Wilder is leading the charge towards unprocessed foods, and once again I’m joining him. I hope you will play along, take the October Unprocessed pledge, and follow me here as I help you try out a different, healthier style of eating each week.
What is the pledge?
Andrew’s big, hairy, audacious goal is to have 30,000 people take the pledge to eat only unprocessed foods all month long. I took the pledge last year and it changed my life in both subtle and dramatic ways. I’ll share more about that here and in my guest post on Andrew’s blog, where I’ll take you along on my condiment journey.
What is the kitchen test?
Andrew defines unprocessed in this clever and reasonably simple way: Unprocessed food is any food that could be made by a person with reasonable skill in a home kitchen with whole-food ingredients.
What’s happening at Recipe Renovator during October Unprocessed?
Over here, I will be offering a weekly post on Sundays, encouraging you to try changing just one meal each week. I’m posting on Sunday to give you time to shop and prep for the Monday meals. I’ll do my best to showcase easy recipes that will fit into busy lifestyles. You won’t have to cook every day, as I’m a big fan of leftovers.
This Sunday, I’ll offer a week’s worth of suggestions for Unprocessed and plant-based breakfasts. The next week, lunches. And so on. Here’s the schedule:
Sunday, September 30: Breakfast week
Sunday, October 7: Lunch week
Sunday, October 14: Dinner week
Sunday, October 21: Snack week
Sunday, October 28: Condiments, sauces, and other random items
Since I’m a big believer in teaching by example, you can also see exactly what I eat all month. My readers voted 3:1 in favor of me posting all my meals on Facebook. I’ll post each set of three photos that evening, with notes, so you can see what’s happening in the Renovator’s kitchen, and also when I travel, as I have at least one trip scheduled.
I will share at least one essay on a Wednesday during the month about my Unprocessed journey, more if time permits.
NEWSLETTER READERS: If you want to try the weekly meal plan, you’ll need to check the blog every Sunday to see that week’s post, do your shopping, and any prep needed for Monday. The newsletter will still go out on Tuesday as usual.
I hope you’ll join me, give feedback, share your challenges and successes, and please spread the word to help Andrew reach his goal!
