I wanted to give you a sense of how it’s going, as one of my goals is to live life transparently.
I had decided to self-publish for the following reasons:
- no need to find a publisher or compromise on the content
- traditional publishing houses and book deals are getting more and more difficult to find, as Border’s and now Barnes and Noble are closed or closing stores
- a larger percentage of readers are moving to the digital format
- I believe in the mission of the book: to help people heal from broken hearts and love again
So, how did we do? Up until the promotion, we had sold 16 books. This was our sales rank the day before:On the promotion day, we sold 737 books! It was really fun to check in throughout the day and see the number going up. We also picked up 2 5-star reviews on the sale day (we are up to 21 reviews now).
What does that mean? Higher “sales” improves the rank of the book on Amazon, so that it’s more likely to show up in “People who bought this also bought” and other referral notices. This is very helpful if you’re not Steven King.
Since I have committed to donating 10% of my proceeds to dog-related organizations, any help in spreading the word about the book is greatly appreciated. Through May 31, 2013, 10% of proceeds will be be donated to the San Diego Humane Society/SPCA. After that, I will choose a different animal-related charity each month.
For those of you who aren’t into e-books, or aren’t using Kindle (or Kindle apps), the book will be available on iTunes, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo in mid-May. And I’m working on a print version as well.
I look forward to hearing from you if you’ve read the book. Thanks for your support!
