These gorgeous fuschia drinkies are simply packed with nutrients. And when it’s hot and I don’t feel like cooking, they are often a meal. This is a great way to sneak vegetables into food.
This is rich in fiber and essential omega-3 fatty acids from the chia seeds. Maca root powder is great for men, as it has positive effects on libido and sexual function. Hemp seeds provide complete proteins and all the essential fatty acids. The deep red of the beets provides anti-oxidants. Cacao nibs add in flavonoids and all the health benefits of chocolate without the sugar. You can use any type of non-dairy milk; we use organic unsweetened soy milk. You do need a high-speed blender for this one. I have a Vita-mix.
Beet-raspberry-strawberry smoothie
Serves 2
1-1/2 C. (350 ml) soy milk, or other non-dairy milk (for a raw drink, you’ll need to use home-made nut milk made from raw nuts)
6-8 ice cubes
2 T. (10 g) maca powder
2 T. (10 g) cacao nibs
2 T. (10 g) buckwheat
2 T. (10 g) chia seeds
2 T. (10 g) hemp seeds
2 small or one large red beet
2 handfuls of raspberries
3-4 handfuls strawberries
Scrub the beets and remove the greens. Reserve the greens for another use or add them to the smoothie (not too many leaves). Cut off the little tail and the top and put the beet in chunks into the blender.
Wash the berries and add to the blender. You can leave the strawberry tops on if they are fresh.
Add all the other ingredients to the blend. Blend on high until smooth.
Tip: If you need to freeze berries, wash and let dry. Lay the berries out on baking sheets covered with parchment paper or silicone, with space between the pieces. Freeze until solid, then place in ziploc bags.

Just in time! I am beginning a juice fast today. Will have this for lunch. Thanks, Stephanie!
Happy juicing Laura!
I love fuchsia … this drink is gorgeous … Almost too pretty to drink
It definitely gives you a fuchsia ‘stache! Thanks for taking the time to comment, CJ.
I love adding beets to smoothies! This recipe will give me a chance to try out maca, too–I got a bag that says “for women” on it, so I’m not sure how it differs from the regular stuff. Looking forward to trying it out!
Ricki, I’m sure it’s the same thing, there is only one type of maca root powder. It’s also very healthy for women but I haven’t seen it marketed that way here in the States. Happy blending!
